New York City-based Carmine Street Guitars is turning landmarks into music, and the result is pretty freaking awesome. Some of the greats—Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, The Dan, Roger Waters—agree, as they’ve bought some of these custom guitars.

To find out a little more about this project, look no further than owner Rick Kelly.

Kelly scours the city for reclaimed wood that once served as the frames of NYC buildings in the 1800s. The collection, dubbed “Bowery Guitars,” is made out of the 200-year-old white pine timber that comes from demolished buildings—or buildings in which the wood is being replaced.
